In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Honda Prologue achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Nissan Ariya has not been tested.

The Honda Prologue comes with a standard Surround Vision System with a rear camera washer to provide all-weather visibility, regardless of road dirt or grime, while the Nissan Ariya doesn’t offer a camera washer, requiring manual cleaning.

Both the Prologue and Ariya have Rear Cross Traffic Alert, but the Prologue has Rear Cross Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Ariya’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Prologue and the Ariya have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Honda Prologue is safer than the Nissan Ariya:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Honda Prologue is safer than the Nissan Ariya:

Reliability

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Honda vehicles are more reliable than Nissan vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Honda fourth in overall reliability. Nissan is ranked 12th.

For better stopping power the Prologue’s standard brake rotors are larger than those on the Ariya:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Prologue has larger standard tires than the Ariya (255/60R19 vs. 235/55R19). The Prologue Elite’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Ariya (275/45R21 vs. 245/45R20).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Prologue Elite has standard 21-inch wheels. The Ariya’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The Honda Prologue’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Nissan Ariya only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires available on the Prologue can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The Ariya doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Prologue’s wheelbase is 12.5 inches longer than on the Ariya (121.8 inches vs. 109.3 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Prologue is 1.8 inches wider in the front and 1.9 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the Ariya.

For greater off-road capability the Prologue has a 1.4 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Ariya (8.1 vs. 6.7 inches), allowing the Prologue to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Passenger Space

The Prologue has 10.5 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Ariya (111.7 vs. 101.2).

The Prologue has 1.6 inches more front hip room, 2.3 inches more front shoulder room, 2.4 inches more rear legroom, 1.9 inches more rear hip room and 1.7 inches more rear shoulder room than the Ariya.

Cargo Capacity

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the Prologue. The Ariya doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

Towing

The Prologue’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Ariya’s (1500 vs. 0 pounds).

Servicing Ease

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Honda service is better than Nissan. J.D. Power ranks Honda 7th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 5% lower rating, Nissan is ranked 10th.

Ergonomics

The Prologue has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Ariya doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

If the windows are left open on the Prologue the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Ariya can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Prologue’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Ariya’s standard intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

The Prologue Touring/Elite’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Ariya offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The Honda Prologue has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the infotainment. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Nissan charges extra for Homelink® on the Ariya.

The Prologue Elite has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Ariya doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

Recommendations

The Honda Prologue outsold the Nissan Ariya by 44% during 2024.
